Ever wondered who would win in a fight between Captain Marvel and Thor. If yes then you’re at the right place. During the release/promotion of Captain Marvel. Kevin Feige said that she is the most powerful Avenger in the MCU. Leaving Thor fans outraged.

And yes, I’m one of them. Jokes Apart! I mean, how come she can defeat a literal GOD. But don’t worry, I am here to analyze this statement made by Feige and then we’ll see how true it holds. This will be an in-depth article with full research on this topic.

In short, we can say that while a fight between Thor vs Captain Marvel is certainly a close one Thor still has an upper hand over Carol as he is physically stronger. Thor’s lightning will overload Captain Marvel’s energy absorption powers. Even the Binary form of Carol won’t be able to handle Thor’s lighting.

He just has better stats. There is no outcome of this battle where Captain Marvel comes on top. It’s a fight between a superhuman and a Literal GOD.

But to be on the safe side, I’d say Thor wins this 9/10. But we’ll be looking at the bigger picture here. Like what if they fought at their peak condition i.e., Post Endgame, or what’s the result in the Comics? So stay tuned, this battle is about to begin.

We also have the latest volume of Captain Marvel comics. That might disappoint some fans. Keep reading to know what’s that.

Comparing Captain Marvel & Thor

In this section, we’ll discuss in detail who would win in a fight between these two. We’ll compare both of them based on the above benchmarks in the table.

Durability: Tie

Durability means the ability to withstand wear, pressure, or damage. Let’s compare two of our heroes based on this parameter:

Remember when the mechanism got crippled in the Niðavellir, and the iris closes. But that energy was needed to melt down the mold to build his weapon. So Thor has to hold down the iris if he wants his weapon i.e., Stormbreaker.

Thor vs captain marvel durability

Not to mention he took the full force of star for a few minutes. Now let’s move on to our next hero i.e., Captain Marvel.

Captain Marvel is also pretty strong regarding Durability. She took a punch in the face from Thanos without even flinching.

Captain Marvel durability

Thanos had to take out Power stone from the gauntlet to keep Captain Marvel out of the way. So, it’s fair to say that this round is a tie between them.

Energy: Tie

When we say energy we mean Energy Projection. Both of these characters can project energy. In Thor’s case, it’s the Lightning. While Captain Marvel projects photon blasts.

Speaking of Thor’s Lighting who can forget this epic scene from Ragnarok.

Thor vs captain marvel energy

That’s when he realized he was not the God of Hammers but the God of Thunder. As we saw in the Captain Marvel movie, Carol’s photon blasts are also very powerful.

captain marvel energy projection

So both of them have powerful Energy projections. However, it depends on which one comes on the top. Depending on the need of the Hour. However, it’s safe to say that this battle also results in a tie.

Fighting: Tie

Fighting refers here to a fighting style. Both have their own unique and different style. We have seen Thor fighting with his weapons i.e., Hammer and Storm Breaker. So he does a lot of tricks shot with his hammer.

For example, when he summons his hammer, it comes to him at a certain velocity and he then uses that momentum against his enemies.

Thor fighting style

However, Carol doesn’t have any weapons. So she has to fight with her hands. Though she is still a great fighter when talking about hand-to-hand combat as we have already seen in her movie.

So we can’t honestly tell who will win this in regards to fighting style. Thor is also good in a hand-to-hand fight but maybe not as good as Carol. But we can’t conclude unless we see them fighting for real.

Intelligence: Captain Marvel

If you compare the intelligence of both these superheroes. No doubt Captain Marvel comes on top. But that’s not by a big margin. Please note when we are talking about Intelligence it’s not about IQ level it’s more about the strategies.

Like what should be the plan and how to find vulnerabilities of the enemy. Just like Captain America plans out a battle. So Carol wins this round but not by a huge margin.

Speed: Thor

Talking about the speed, In the MCU, it’s clearly said that Captain Marvel can travel through space. And that too with greater speed. Some people say it’s closer to the speed of light. But we can’t confirm unless it’s truly stated.

thor flying speed mjolnir

However, that’s not the case in comics. She can’t travel that fast in the comics. At the same time, Thor can travel with Mjölnir or Stormbreaker closer to the speed of sound.

Not to mention Thor can also summon Bifrost which gives him the advantage of traveling to nine realms beyond the speed of light.

Also, it’s not just about the traveling speed, it’s combined, like implementing speed with fighting. So to be on the fair side, if we compare them with regards to comics, Thor stands out on the top.

Strength: Thor

Now comes the most important parameter i.e., Strength. In the comics, both the characters have lifted the planets and moved them from their orbits. Captain Marvel has even destroyed a planet with her bare hands.

But before you jump to the conclusion, let me tell you, that Thor can lift Multiple Planets at the same time. He is just way too Powerful. However, we haven’t yet seen his peak potential in the MCU.

So as of now, I’m not going to compare them on the verge of MCU. Also, we haven’t yet explored much of Captain Marvel in the MCU.

On the other hand, in the comics, he is really strong and much more powerful. After all, he is a GOD. So based on strength Thor wins this round easily.

Who will win in the MCU?

Let’s see and compare who is stronger in the Marvel Cinematic Universe right now. I will compare them from the movies as well as the latest What If? perspective.

In the Movies

Thor in mcu

So that was the fight between them. If we talk just about the stats then sure Thor Dominates it. But what will happen if they fight in the MCU?

If they fought after the Avengers: Endgame, As we saw these two characters in Avengers: Endgame, Carol would win easily. There are plenty of points to prove this. First and for, Thor was in depression, he lost his father, brother, and half of his people.

So it was completely justified to have him in this situation. Plus he took the blame for the decimation of half the universe. He was still thinking why didn’t he go for the head.

Secondly, he lost his physique, his strength, his speed. Captain Marvel can easily defeat him at this time. But Thor from Ragnarok or Infinity War can defeat Captain Marvel easily.

In the What If…?

Now let’s compare the version of the characters we got in the animated series What If…? Although this show is canon the universe shown in the series is different than what we have seen in the movies.

For example, we have got the version of Thor where Odin never adopted Loki. He is called Party Thor as he throws a bigger intergalactic party.

Captain Marvel comes in to stop Thor and his party and we see a face-off between the two powerhouses. While the fight looks close, however, Thor comes out on top as he puts his hammer on top of Captain Marvel.

We yet again see a build-up to a fight probably even more dangerous as Captain Marvel goes on to Binary form but unfortunately (or fortunately?) that fight never happens.

Who will win in the Comics?

Recently we’ve got an answer to this. In the latest comic, Captain Marvel#12 volume of 2019, Carol Denver turns evil. When she turns to the dark side, she is on a mission to kill every member of the Avengers Team.

Eventually, she has succeeded in doing so. Yes, she had killed one of her former Team members who is none other than Thor.

So this is how the story goes:

When Thor realizes that Carol is the one behind the Mask. He decided to fight and kill her. He still has that anger left in him after the Civil War II.

However, Carol knows that she can’t defeat the God of Thunder while he still has his hammer. So Danvers throws it out in the space. But still, we all know that Thor can summon his Hammer from anywhere.

However, this time for some reason it didn’t come. As a result, it was a hand-to-hand fight only. So without his hammer Captain Marvel defeated Thor. But not only did she defeat him, but she also chopped his head off.

captain marvel kills thor in comics

This volume then continues to show her arc as a villain and what she does later. However, it didn’t tell us how and why she turned dark. But at the end of the issue, she vows that some supervillain is controlling her mind.

Don’t worry Thor fans. These things keep happening in comics. There are a lot of volumes and editions of comics going on right now. So Thor is only dead in this story.

Conclusion

So, that was the complete analysis of who will win in a fight between Thor and Captain Marvel. My final answer is that it depends on the writer/director what they want to show.

Clearly, as of now in the MCU, Carol has the upper hand. While in the comics, Thor is stronger than her, unless the writer/director wants to change the circumstances.

So the statement that Captain Marvel is the strongest Avenger was just a marketing strategy. And I think that worked pretty well.

Now, it’s up to you to decide who is more powerful among them. Let me know who is your favorite between the two in the comment section below.
