The 10 most sinister Iron Man villains

Marvel’s Genius, Billionaire, Playboy, Philanthropist aka the Iron Man has faced a lot of villains in his entire life. Whether he encountered them while trying to save the world or stopping their evil plan of conquering the world.

Or the enemies he acquired while living his other life as Tony Stark, the CEO of Stark Industries. Many of his Business rivals have tried to replicate the Stark tech and his suit of armor to take over his business empire. But so far none of them have succeeded.

However, there have been a lot of people who have created their suit with unique functionality which is worth mentioning. With that in mind, I am here with the top 10 most difficult and evil foes Tony stark ever faced.

10. Whiplash

Over the years a lot of character has taken the name of Whiplash in the Marvel Universe. One such is the MCU’s version Ivan Vanko. But the first Whiplash that ever appeared in the Marvel comics was Mark Scarlotti.

He was a gifted electrical technician who worked at the Cincinnati branch of Stark Industries. But his desire of living a luxurious life made him a criminal. He later made his costume that powered a sophisticated metal whip and started working as an assassin for Maggia.

He called himself whiplash, worked undercover at Stark Industries on behalf of Maggia where he became Head of Research, and eventually fought Iron Man. But Iron Man easily defeats him. And Since then they have come across on many occasions but despite overwhelming odds, Tony has always found a way to defeat him.

9. Blizzard

Like Whiplash, A lot of characters have taken over the name Blizzard in the Marvel Universe. We even got one in the previously canon MCU show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. named Donnie Gill. But the first version of Blizzard is Gregor Shapanka.

He is a Hungarian scientist his main goal is to find immortality. So he decides to study cryonics as his first step towards his goal. Hence he joins the Stark Industries where he would secretly steal from Tony Stark to fund his research.

But one day Tony caught him red-handed and fired him when he was trying to steal from his secret vault. Eventually, this incident leads to him creating a suit containing cold-generating devices. He started calling himself “Jack Frost”.

Gregor then tries to raid Stark Industries but ends up abducting Tony’s best friends Happy Hogan and Pepper Potts. But is later defeated by Iron Man.

8. Fin Fang Foom

Fin Fang Foom is that one villain you would least expect our beloved Iron Man to encounter. He is depicted as an extraterrestrial creature that looks like a dragon. A lot of people have awakened Fin from his sleep leading to nothing but chaos.

But what leads him to encounter Iron Man is when the owner of the ten sophisticated rings none other than Mandarin finds Fin and awakens him. He later used the help of this dragon-like creature in taking control over one-third of China.

Finn later reveals himself as an alien of Kakaranathara who wants to conquerer this world. He then summons his crew who had been disguised as humans for centuries. Mandarin then joins the forces with War Machine and Iron Man to stop his evil plan.

7. Crimson Dynamo

Iron Man has faced a lot of Crimson Dynamo throughout his heroic life. The first person to ever take the alias Crimson Dynamo was Anton Vanko. He was a soviet scientist of Armenian birth and had a Ph.D. in Physics.

Vanko was one of the world’s leading experts on electricity. He built a powered exoskeleton capable of performing incredible feats. Essentially, it’s his version of the armored suit. Soviet Government sent him to kill Iron Man but he failed in doing so.

He eventually joined Tony in fear of his superior who would kill him for failing. And that is exactly what happens, The KGR sends their top assassin Black Widow and Boris Turgenev to arrest him.

But Vanko dies saving Iron Man’s life when he fires an unstable, experimental laser pistol at Turgenev, killing himself in the process. What makes him worthy on this list is how his legacy continues and a lot of people took this alias.

6. Spymaster

We have got a lot of Spymaster from the Marvel Universe. But there is a good reason for that. First, let dig deep into the first version of spymaster. The Original Spymaster was a freelance industrial spy.

He was a trained assassin, saboteur, and an extraordinary marksman with advanced weaponry often referred to as the Master of espionage. Once the Zodiac, a criminal organization hired him and his team named Espionage Elite to steal Tony Stark’s secrets via infiltrating Stark Industries.

But Tony’s alter ego, aka the Iron Man stopped his evil plans. Since then they have come across each other on many occasions. One such was when Spymaster eventually succeeded in assassinating Tony Stark but later it was revealed as Life Model Decoy.

He was even successful in stealing many of Tony’s Iron Man designs which he then sold to Justin Hammer that eventually resulted in Armor Wars. Spymaster died without revealing his true identity and that’s one of the reasons his legacy continues.

5. Ghost

The ghost is a character who lives up to his name. No one knows about who he is which gives him an edge over his enemies. While we have gotten a female version of the ghost in the MCU it’s nowhere similar to the comic one.

In the Comics, Ghost has a tragic past which eventually leads him to be a paranoid vigilante whose aim is to wipe out corporatocracy. He claimed that he was an IT researcher once and corporate greed made him what he today is.

Ghost first encountered Iron Man when he was approached by the leading executive of the Roxxon Oil Corporation, Carrington Pax to destroy Accutech Research and Development. However Tony Stark bought the company and while he was investing in the new facility as Iron Man he met with the Ghost.

Iron Man managed to keep Accutech from Ghost and from there on Ghost took a vow to revenge on Tony Stark thinking he was the employer of Iron Man. Since then they have encountered each other numerous times.

4. Madame Masque

Madame Masque has already appeared in Agent Carter played by Wynn Everett. In comics, Whitney Frost aka Madame Masque was born Giulietta Nefaria. She was the daughter of the criminal mastermind Count Luchino Nefaria. He gave her daughter to his wealthy financier and employer Byron Frost as her mother died giving birth.

And he wanted her to live a respectable life. Byron Frost named her Whitney Frost who was living a prosperous life. She was a debutante and rich socialite. Everything was going fine until his father Count Nefaria contacted her again on the death of Byron Frost.

He told her everything and how he wanted to her take over the Maggia as his heir. Initially, she refuses but her fiancée left when he came to know about her criminal background so she had no choice but to join his father and took the aliases “Madame Masque.”

Over time, she eventually met with Iron Man on a battlefield but fell in love with him. However, due to her father’s death, she became paranoid and turned on everyone including stark.

She even tried to assassinate Stark by swapping bodies with Stark’s lover Bethany Cabe. They have come across each other a lot from them. Madame has hired a lot of mercenaries and assassins including Spymaster to kill Stark.

3. Justin Hammer

We have already got Justin Hammer played by Sam Rockwell in the MCU. He is villainous and a rival entrepreneur of the Stark Industries. Hammer is the reason why many of Iron Man’s rogue has upgraded and advanced suit and why they don’t just sell them in the market.

He hires these people and calls them his underground mercenaries to get secrets and take over his business rivals including Tony Stark. Once he invented a device to take control over Iron Man’s armor in which he succeeded. He forced Iron Man to murder the ambassador of Carnelia.

However, Stark figured out a way to not only clean his name but take out and destroy that Hammer’s controlling device. Since then Hammer has hired a lot of assassins or people who already have fought Iron Man but failed and gave them upgraded suits to fight Iron Man.

2. Obadiah Stane

We have already Obadiah Stane in the first MCU movie, Iron Man. In the comics, Obadiah Stane was the original and the first Iron Monger. He saw his father shoot himself in a game of Russian Rolutter who considers himself on a “lucky streak.” This incident traumatized him for his lifetime.

Since then Stane became a ruthless man who uses psychological manipulation to order to get his work done. Over the years chain of events leads him to become the CEO of his own company the Stane International.

Earlier he did business with Howard Stark but after his accidental death, he desired to take over the company from his son Tony Stark. In which he eventually succeed gaining access to Stark International which he renamed Stane International.

He got his hands on the notes of Tony Stark for this Iron Man suit. Which he then uses to build his armor known as Iron Monger which was better than Iron Man’s one. However, Tony Stark returns with an even better-armored suit. He then confronts Stane and eventually defeats him.

1. Mandarin

The Most sinister villain of Iron Man is none other than the Mandarin. He was first featured in Iron Man 3. However, it turned out to be a fake one. And we’ll be getting a real one in the upcoming MCU film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

It’s too bad that we won’t get to see Iron Man coming face-to-face across him. Mandarin had a tragic past, his parents died shortly after his birth. He was then raised by his aunt and consequently, he was evicted by the government as his aunt wasn’t able to pay taxes for his ancestral home.

He grew up with this anger towards the civilization that taxed him and made him homeless. Mandarin then decides to explore the forbidden Valley of Spirits. Where he finds the 10 rings on the skeleton of Axonn-Karr, a dragon-like alien from Maklu IV planet.

Axonn crashed his starship centuries ago and died. Later Mandarin studied the rings and learned how to use ten. These 10 rings grant him various powers ranging from blasts of fire, ice to being able to control others’ minds and altering the state of matter.

His only aim is no less than the absolute domination of the world and soon Iron Man becomes the main obstacle against his evil plans.
